In a long-awaited announcement, WaterTower Music revealed that the original motion picture soundtrack for Dune: Part Two will be available on February 23, one week before the movie’s domestic theatrical release. The music is again created by Hans Zimmer, who won his second Oscar Award for the triumphant score of Dune: Part One (2021).

An Epic Musical Journey

The legendary composer admitted that he’s never quite departed from Arrakis since completing work on the first movie:

I never left the world of Dune. In fact, I think [Denis Villeneuve] thought I was quite mad, because I kept writing after we finished the first movie. But because I knew the story, I knew the book, I knew what was coming our way. And in fact, a lot of the main themes in this second movie were written at the end of the first film, before Denis started shooting. It felt important to carry on writing when we were still in the same spirit, the same frame of mind.

The full soundtrack will be released on February 23, 2024 in a variety of formats, including Dolby Atmos, CD, and vinyl.

Dune: Part Two Singles Out Now

Two tracks from the album have already been released, offering moviegoers a taste of the immersive soundscapes that will bring the story of Dune to life. These combine various orchestral elements—including instruments that were created specially for these movies—with electronic sounds, in Zimmer’s signature style, to create an otherworldly experience.

Director Denis Villeneuve shared his emotional first reaction upon listening to the first piece:

I wanted [Hans Zimmer] to write something unforgettable for Chani. A love theme, the love of Paul for Chani. I wanted something heartbreaking, and the most beautiful love theme ever written, and honestly I think he did it with the track ‘A Time of Quiet Between the Storms.’ It’s one of the most beautiful scores he’s written. I remember when I first listened to it, I was in tears.
