Film journalist Max Evry spent the better part of two years researching 1984’s Dune movie and interviewing dozens of people involved—from cast to studio executives—for his new book A Masterpiece in Disarray: David Lynch’s Dune. An Oral History. On today’s Dune Talk, Marcus, Mark (DuneInfo), and Simon bring their burning questions about this troubled, yet unique film production. Could Paul Atreides have been played by a certain Top Gun star? And, why is the main theme of Frank Herbert’s original Dune novel completely absent from this movie?
